Rather than replacing your existing rig, the app sits alongside your PC-based iRacing setup and layers a mixed reality cockpit view on top of it — you keep your wheel, pedals, and shifter, but instead of staring at a monitor you’re seated inside a rendered cockpit that tracks your head movement and, thanks to Vision Pro’s cameras, shows your actual hands gripping the actual wheel through passthrough.
That last detail is what separates this from a typical VR racing headset. Most VR racing setups either hide your hands behind virtual gloves or lose them entirely once you look down, which makes fine wheel and shifter inputs harder to judge instinctively. Because Vision Pro blends live video of your real hands into the rendered scene, you can glance down mid-corner and see exactly where your fingers are relative to the paddle shifters, without breaking the illusion of sitting in a cockpit.
Setup connects to your existing iRacing account, so your license, safety rating, and iRating carry over — this isn’t a separate casual mode, it’s the same service with the same physics and tire modeling that iRacing is known for, viewed through a different display. The app pulls in support for iRacing’s full roster of licensed cars and tracks, and calibration for your specific rig happens inside the headset before you head out on track.
The catch is the hardware requirement on the PC side: Nvidia is specified at RTX 4070 Ti or 5070 Ti and above, plus a genuinely fast 5GHz Wi-Fi 6 connection, since the simulation still runs on your desktop and gets streamed to the headset in real time.
